Simply amazing bike skills.

HealthMap | Global disease alert map

On one of the forums I frequent, a member from the USA posted a thread about the swine flu in Mexico and was concerned about its spread to the USA.  In response, another member posted a link to the HealthMap | Global disease alert map. Using Google Maps, you can see exactly where reports or discussions of disease and illness are occuring around the world.  Very handy if you’re about to go travelling.

Future Car from Aptera

This future car does look like something out of a movie.  Pity the big car companies will squash these kinds of start-ups.

Aptera is planning on building and starting to sell an all-electric car late this year, with hybrid and all-gas versions coming out later. The main innovation these guys are bringing to the car space is a car body that is amazingly efficient. They are using composite materials, the same kinds of things Burt Rutan used to build Space Ship One, to build a very strong but very lightweight body. The body is then shaped to absolutely minimize the drag as the car moves through air. It looks something like an advanced aircraft or maybe a spaceship. A common question they get is “Does it fly?”.

BMW vs Audi

BMW vs Audi

On the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Beverly Glen Blvd (corrected the location), Audi has put up some billboards showing the all new Audi A4 along with the headline: “Your move, BMW”. Santa Monica BMW, a local dealership, took on the challenge and entered a virtual chess game ….of course, with cars rather than pawns, kings or queens.

Virtual Haircut (Requires headphones)

I asked my wife to take a seat for 4 minutes to listen to something. Obliging, I sat her down, put the headphones on her head and started playing the Virtual Haircut. She squirmed, very noticeably, when the sound of the clippers came on. I just wish I’d taken a picture.
