3 young siblings provide help, smiles for quake evacuees

A touching story of three children, themselves evacuees after the Kumamoto earthquakes, who volunteered to help others.

Encouraged by a simple smile or a word of thanks, three young siblings are doing their part to lift morale and provide comfort in a cramped evacuation center here surrounded by destruction and misery.

Yudai, 12, Manami, 10, and Ayu, 7, of the Nojiri family overcame their initial reluctance, shyness and own evacuation struggles to become volunteer workers at the town of Mashiki’s general gymnasium, which houses about 850 earthquake victims.
