There are many stories, posted and re-posted on the web about what it was like to fly one of the most amazing planes made. It got so hot at high speed that the chassis had to to be made with gaps, so it would literally leak fuel until it got fast, and hot enough for the metal to expand and seal up.

The real top speed is classified, but going by reports, it was fast enough that the heat would melt metal and it would easily outrun guided anti-aircraft missiles.

The most amazing thing was that the aircraft was designed in the ’60s!
